Smart Poultry Farming: Enhancing Production and Animal Welfare!

This project has been gaining momentum and has been pushed forward by the Open Skies Fellowship, a renowned organization that supports innovative ideas and projects. This blog, we will explore how the Open Skies Fellowship has helped to advance my Smart Poultry Farming project and its impact on the sustainability of bird farming.

The fellowship provides resources, mentorship, and funding to help turn innovative ideas into successful projects. Smart Poultry Farming is one such project that has benefited greatly from the Open Skies Fellowship.
Smart Poultry Farming involves the use of advanced technologies such as sensors, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to monitor and optimize poultry production. These technologies help to improve poultry health, reduce environmental impact, and increase productivity. Thanks To the support of the Open Skies Fellowship, Smart Poultry Farming has made significant advancements in these areas.
Livestock plays an important role in the agricultural sector of Rwanda. It contributes to agricultural GDP up 14%.The agricultural sector accounts for 33% of the national GDP Rwanda earned per year. This is because major policy development and investment that have been put in place to increase livestock productivity by increased adoption of improved breeds and better feed and feeding. The livestock sector has become increasingly productive over the past years and the aim is to sustain this growth under PSTA 4. Cows have been promoted for milk production, while small-stock, poultry, and aquaculture will be raised mostly for meat due to lower feed requirements. Small livestock also contributes to farm income, resilience, and enhanced nutritional status of farming families. In this fiscal year 2021/22, The small stock population increased by 4% of poultry.
We make research about small livestock farming in Rwanda so we saw that coop farmer they are suffering during the farming 17% of baby hens and 0.8% of grow hens died due to bad environment were not controlled.
During research most of the farmer we talk with them they are using traditional way to treat hens which caused more problems to hens even they stressed hen gave constantly medicine to cure they sickness while as we see they did nothing because they didn't solve the roots cause.
Based on skills we got at schools, training we attended and research we did on daily treat of hens and much effort required for coop farmer we come up with an IOT solution for poultry farmers called "SMART POULTRY FARMING".
SMART POULTRY FARMING: It is the internet of thing (IoT) based system that will help farmers to monitor their coop through data (Temperature, Humidity, Carbon dioxide, Ammonia and Dust) collected by the system.
The system will provide a real time notification Via sms on both off-line/on-line telephone and emails when hens conditions worsen.
The system save data close to the poultry farmer to help him/her access data remotely and sends data to the internet (IOT Cloud platform ) for further analysis.
so far our solution reduce 98% of hens died due to bad environment and increase the yield of production Weight(eggs and hens). We build this solution of IOT by combination of hardware's (Heater, Fan, Bulb, Curtain), Sensors(Temperature, Humidity, Ammonia, Carbon dioxide, Duster, Light) and Softwares(Website for accessing the parameters collected in the coop and monitoring it).
We courage youth to think big and try to solve difference local challenges available in their society rather than to wait for other to do. Please if you've got an idea, start today. There's no better time than now to get going. That doesn't mean quit your job and jump into your idea 100% from day one, but there's always small progress that can be made to start the movement👌👌.
